Americans have some of the best agricultural lands in the world, along with Ukraine and Argentina, American farmers don't need help from the State to be competitive and make a lot of money, Australians have much worse land than the USA, and their farmers make enough money to have a very good standard of life in an expensive first world country.

Yes. There's tons of books out there these days and there's nothing stopping me from buying textbooks. The reality is that I wanted the PhD as a long term goal and to make my studies official, not because I wanted to sit there and listen to an instructor. It's far faster to learn it on your own than to be tied down to a system as inefficient as the academic system. The only time I could see it worthwhile to have an instructor is to ask questions when needed and if they have information that goes beyond the book. Otherwise, what good are they?Comment
