You think a network should fire its #1 talking head (with a following) without a single person who is capable of replacing him right now?

    Seriously?

I think the guy is a monstrous tool, but every talking head is by definition. It's all about ratings.

Well, we don't know what kind of severance packages would be needed, the fallout that would occur for firing him for no reason, etc. Also, I doubt he's going to be suspended permanently. Personally, I hope he comes back, because he helps push up the ratings of Fox.

That flap with O'Reilly was one of the funniest things in TV history.

          What the ****?

Severance has nothing to do with it.

MSNBC WILL MAKE LESS MONEY IF THEY FIRE OLBERMANN. What exactly do you not comprehend here?

Apparently his ratings have been falling for a while now (to the point where him and Maddow get similar ratings). Maybe MSNBC thinks this is an easier way to try something new. Who the **** knows what TV execs are thinking when it comes to lineup planning?

Well, that's true given they put Eliot Spitzer and that other ***** on a show on CNN. I thought I was reading an article from the onion when I read about that show going on the air.

                He's coming back, apparently.

Keith Olbermann to be back on the air Tuesday night

Seems like a slap on the wrist. Who knows, maybe they wanted to generate some publicity.

They should have started an "I'm with Coocoo" campaign.

Yes, this does kind of reek of a publicity stunt.

I, for one, am absolutely shocked that they didn't fire him and hire a little schoolgirl to replace him.

Could be. Also likely this a ploy to weaken his bargaining poistion when renewal of contract negotiiations start up (IIRC that ends in 2012).

Olbermann is not a journalist, neither is Beck or O'Reilly, ffs. Fox's actual reporting has nothing to do with them.

I'm not sure why anyone sees something wrong with having opinion shows that are opinionated. It's the opinions that make them interesting! The bias is the whole point of the show. Sometimes people want to hear other people's thoughts on things.

I think Olbermann's show is stupid, but there is certainly nothing wrong with having shows such as his on the air.

The problem is patently obvious: When America gets its news only from opinionated blowhards, you get a polarized and dysfunctional system. Like you have now.

What TV show can Americans go to for unopinionated news?
