I've heard of it, but there are downsides to that. For one thing, doing so would obviously remove all my muscle. For another, long term complications can arise from very low calorie diets. Furthermore, there have been recent studies to suggest that it is in fact an amino acid found in certain types of meat that is responsible for the increase in life expectancy of those found to be on severe calorie restriction, not the absence of calories themselves. Of course there is also speculation that food in general is part of it as well due to oxidation. I'm actually looking for the article still. Let me know if you find it. I feel like right now my diet gets the best of both worlds. I'm almost always on a calorie restriction but I still am able to do what I want to do.

Also, my desire to pursue bio chemistry and genetic engineering is not without cause.

I think I'm going to do a rethink on my diet. I think I'm going to go for something that emphasizes vegetables more. I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm wondering if I can achieve the same effects that I need through vegetables. I would of course always keep meat in my diet, but I plan on looking into specific types and perhaps substituting a couple of meals with vegetables and others food sources. Also, it looks like whey protein has a decent amount of methionine in it. I'm wondering though if it's considered a low amount or high amount since I have no base to go by.

Damn, pretty much everything contains methionine in it.

Aren't amino acids good for you?

The article Drixnak cited noted that there is research indicating that the amino acid methionine may be harmful to longevity.

Eh, there's not enough evidence out there and I was reading up some more on the study. It's not worth the risk right now until they run experiments on humans and have some solid data. A decent calorie restriction is still probably the best way to go. Of course eating right and working out has the biggest effect.

I eat 5 times a day for roughly $20/week. Could bring that down quite a bit by cutting out processed foods, which are generally more expensive here than in the US. But I likes me my peanut butter. (At least the low/no sugar added kind that comes from the US. The local type of peanut butter is more sugary than what you get in Reeces.)

I spend $10/week at market, fresh fruits and veggies, and along with rice (~$40/mo for the entire household of 9) and cutting out the fluff I could get by more healthily than what I eat now.

As for obesity, some of it is genetic. Some cultural. Certain immigrant groups to the US get hit by both and it shows in the statistics. Just saying because I didn't see it mentioned yet. On the other end of things, it really doesn't matter what I eat, I weight 165 to 175 lbs regardless of diet and exercise (well, when more active I'm at the upper end of that range) and have since I was 15.

One of the things I wasn't aware existing before coming here, but now I eat as much as I can is malunggay (moringa). Very nutritious and doesn't impact the flavor of a dish so can be added to just about anything. Plus it's free.

While it's true that as a profoundly heterosexual male, I cannot judge merely womanly features from a full-blown case of gayface, we have it on good authority that you suffer from this condition.

                      • Sorry, but you're too insignificant to me to even go hunt down your supposedly posted picture on here so I can trash it.

                        • Coming from an unemployed 28 year-old who lacks any trace of wit or testosterone, that hurts.

                          • The unemployed bit is beyond my control, the testosterone bit is bull**** since that pic is taken from underneath anyway. Notice they only used 1 picture to call me gayface. On one part they talk about my upturned nose, which isn't true since my nose is actually hooked and hawkish. I could post more pictures, but I find the whole gayface thing amusing since there's not much else you guys can use against me. As usual KH, you can't back up much of what you say other than to post economics numbers. As far as wit goes, I see no trace of wit whatsoever in anything you post. You're pretty much relegated to posting pointless economics topics.
