This whole "knowing how to cook" idea is pure ****ing stupidity. It's called taking a lean protein, some sort of healthy carbohydrate like fruit, vegetables, etc., and a good source of fat like olive oil. That's it. Nobody says you need spices and a full fledged meal to complete the macro nutrient ratios you need to survive.

        Lean protein is expensive.

Fruit and vegetables aren't generally seen as 'carbohydrates'.

Food should be pleasurable not just a refueling chore.

The dollar menu is incredibly cheap, rice and beans are even cheaper.

I had friends in graduate school who spent very very little on food. So little that taco bell/mcdonalds was 'expensive'.

They didn't eat things like onions because of the cost, though.

It's not hard, but a huge number of people do not know it. When I said "know how to cook" I don't mean "know how to cook tasty gourmet meals." I meant literally know how to cook basic healthy food.

But clearly you need to be educated about what constitutes a good diet - so we're back to education. And socialism.

Well, off to happy hour (early release today in exchange for giving $15 to the United Way) to suck down some zero-value liquid carbs. Mmmmmmm.... beeeeeer.

Only a fat loser would say that. Lean protein is cheap as hell, in fact it's cheaper than the less lean meats out there. Why is this? Because fat adds taste. You really don't know dick. Whey protein is 27$ for 5 pounds. That's 78 servings of lean protein. Do the math on that. Frozen chicken breasts are 2$ a pound, and if you find the right sales you can get them for even less. Also, how the hell are vegetables and fruit not seen as carbohydrates? They are THE carbohydrates. If you want to eat healthy, they're the only carbohydrates you eat. You can use brown rice and plain oats, but they pale in comparison.

Many people don't even had a rudimentary knowledge of how to use a cooker, or even a microwave...

Are you telling me people don't know how to throw a piece of meat in a pan and turn the heat to medium and then cook it to a safe temperature? I find this hard to believe.

drinksnacks, you may well eat somewhat cheaply (although i very much doubt you spend less than me because i live in the 3rd world and food is pretty cheap here), but you're the stupid one if you can't even enjoy a simple pleasure like eating.

Yes. Certainly in this country that is very true - so I imagine it is the same in your country.

I eat 5 times a day for 5$ or so total per day. As far as pleasure goes, only a weak idiot would eat for the sake of eating. The only reason you derive pleasure from it is because it releases endorphins. Sex and eating are the two activities that release the most endorphins. So essentially you're indulging in nothing more than a drug with the act of eating take the place of using a syringe to inject. That's a total lack of discipline.
