Jesus Alby...I think others have already explained why this is silly.

But I also hate the militaristic propaganda that you're spewing here -- we owe a tremendous amount to the veterans of World War I & II. But let's be honest here. The men and women who fought in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc were not actually sacrificing themselves for the population of the USA, they were doing so to satisfy the whims of the sitting President who wanted to established he had a large penis. These conflicts did not protect, nor help citizens of America (it can be argued that the constant militant interventions the USA does only provokes further hostilities and terrorism...)...and no, that's not the fault of the individual soldiers and I'm not faulting them for it. But let's not pretend that every soldier is righteous and untouchable.

They still have to pay tax, regardless of how many Iraqis they kill.

Knee-jerk political opinions are usually unwise, Al. You should think about that.

EDIT: I see I'm not the first to use the phrase either. Maybe the girls also notice that you're a knee-jerk. Think about that too.

Yes Al, that's the most reasonable objection I could think of. One that should have been made when framing the compensation I might add, so that it could be framed in a better manner.

I may have voted for the veteran one, if I were to be a voter in Virginia and not in the situation I described in the other thread in regards to local voting. I wouldn't have voted for the senior one though. I would want to be more informed about how big an impact this would make financially though before deciding for sure how I would vote on the veteran one. I would presume that it's not a lot of households that would be exempted, and so a negligible impact on revenue. But as property tax funds local things in general, it could be a problem in some areas. I don't know.

I would support initiatives to better compensate our veterans, and while I see the problems with this method, I wouldn't expect better options. So if in closer inspection there was minimal impact, I would vote for it. I do agree that "do something rather than nothing" is a valid motivation, but it can't make an actually detrimental option (whether this one would be or not) one worth enacting.

God, the younger generation is the biggest group of whiners I've evah heard.
Let me get this straight. I moved to my current home to take advantage of the school district and my daughter attended school in the district for about 12 years. I've now lived in that home for over 20 years and plan to stay there for at least another 5. In all those extra years, I've had no child in the school district but have been paying the extra taxes to support the younger generation's kids in the district. How does that make me selfish? Bunch of ****ing whiners.

I have no idea what you were trying to say... I actually forgot that this thread wasn't just about veterans... then when I realized you were talking about the first referendum proposition I was confused because you seemed to go one way then switch it up... are you saying you would have supported the tax exemption or are you against it? What's this about younger people being whiners and you being selfish?

You are a glutton for punishment.

If disabled veterans don't have enough money, we should give them more money. We shouldn't add some contrived tax exemption for a particular good.

We especially shouldn't give them a tax exemption that disproportionately helps out the veterans with the most money.

Does AS really think that if this hadn't passed, and if veterans really do need more money, that nothing would ever have been done?

AS has taken "the perfect is the enemy of the good" to mean "anything that isn't the worst possible policy must be supported unconditionally".
