  • I have another idea...

Why don't you become a minority spokesman for the Tea Party or the local Republicans like Michael Steele or Michelle Malkin? People love showing they don't have racist tendencies and what better way of showing it then by having some token guy as a spokesman, and as a young Arab-American you would get a lot of attention. Seriously, there is this black Tea Party guy who goes to rallies and actually has the white protestors paying to take pictures holding their protest signs next to him, just to show they have a black friend. You could probably get some mid-level position in the Republican party and be set for life.

I would do that in a heartbeat but I'm too racially ambiguous to pull it off

That clock is still ticking. You seem to have all your hopes pinned on the marines. You may need to explore alternatives. There is nothing wrong with an army or polise career, good honest work that needs to be done.

I can tell you, from personal, experience, that changing careers at 25 does mean that you do need to make more effort to get that first job and establish yourself. And I was changing from a career that had some relevance to my new career.

      • Whoa.

God bless this country where you can be a stoner/roadie/soundman up until your early 30s, and THEN go to engineering school, get a great job and be set. I had a 32 yo guy who had an intern position at my previous job. This was awesome - Married, 2 kids, Engineering student, chill as hell, and ok on the brains side too.

He is now developing imaging equipment or some **** like that...

        • You can switch around in your late 20s and in your 30s here, too. The problem with Al is that he is wasting his education.

Are you forgetting that Arab automatically = Islam = terrorist, or just assuming that the desperate-to-look-cool set will protect him from the lil' Drixnaks?

            • yes, true. this also looks **** on resumes. 2008-2010 "I dwelled in a basement playing computer games" sucks. If you can say "yeah, I was a roadie for a couple of years, travelled around europe, smoked weed, banged chicks, no biggie" Not only does that harm your chances, it can also get you into marketing management.

He studied business. But at what college?

                            • I'm arguably entering my late 20s (just turned 27, so I consider myself mid still ) and I've worked professionally for 6 years? Not including stuff I did during university.

I suppose the finer things in life include living in your parents' basement while pursuing useless degrees...
