  • I'd still prefer to see the Benny Hill style of women running away...

A second chance I could understand, but you got seriously injured both times? If I were a recruiter already meeting goals thanks to the economy, I'd see red flags all over that and move on to the lifelong athletes that are beating down the door. Have you been in touch with your recruiter about whether and when you could even give it a third try?

Marine OCS attrition is 30-50% per 10-week class, approaching the upper bound during the winter session which I did.
If it was the winter session, and winter's starting, and there are multiple classes per year, what are you still doing home? What type of injuries were these exactly?

And if the attrition is so bad as to wipe out 30-50% of candidates and 200% of you, why don't you just settle for the Army?
      Unbelievable!

      • I'm guessing he doesn't settle for the army because he's attempting to use the military as a career move and marines would look nice on his resume. All that rhetoric he spouts about how wonderful servicemen are and how noble they are for risking their lives is just to stroke his ego.

Yes. In fact, I was recommended by the commanding officer of OCS to attend an abbreviated 6-week course in the summer. Assuming I meet my physical requirements, it will not be a problem to be accepted.

OCS is not a fun place and since I've managed 7 weeks twice and I want to go back a 3rd time, do you honestly think, as long as I'm qualified, that they wouldn't oblige? I mean I've demonstrated my dedication and I've done 90% of what is done at OCS TWICE now. Seriously. Why would they not say 'this kid has bust his ass twice and came short but he's still trying. That says a lot.'?

My evaluations were all very positive.

The 6-week course is only offered in the summer. I was not able to go this past summer because I was not cleared medically in time. I could have applied for the January class but if I have the chance to do 6-weeks instead of 10-weeks, I'll wait and do 6-weeks. Plus, it gives me more time to get ready physically.

          And I don't settle.

          • So you think it's a good plan to sit on your ass for an EXTRA 6 months in order to "save" 4 weeks?

            WTF is your problem?

Good ****ing God, you need to reevaluate your priorities.

[What KH said.] The only way sacrificing 6 months to save 4 weeks could possibly be rational is if you're seriously concerned that you'll get injured again if you do the normal duration, but if that's the case, then maybe this isn't meant for you. Seriously, what sort of medical issue was it that managed to get you eighty-sixed twice and so diminishes your confidence about round 3? Was it something recurring like bad knees, or a one-time thing like an ankle sprain? If something like the latter, why not just do the 10 weeks and get it over with? I'm genuinely curious.

The point isn't about bravado but the fact that realistically you may have no choice in the matter. Just a thought.

              • Clearly neither of you have been to OCS.

Those who have would understand the logic in waiting for the opportunity to do 4 less weeks. Four less weeks is freaking gold. Plus, honestly, I would not have been ready for January anyway since my shins had been acting up again recently. The next class after the Jan class isn't til May which would be the earliest I could do the 6-week.

And before you say I'm being a ***** about doing four less weeks, I've done 14 weeks as is! So there's no being a ***** to try to do 4 less weeks. It's ****ing incredibly rational and logical if you've been to OCS.

Clearly we haven't because we have better things to do with our time than engage in marginal value activities like Marine Officering or Female Repulsion

                  • shins had been acting up again

Have you considered being a data entry clerk instead of a marine?

If your shins act up when all you do is sit around infront of the computer all day masturbating, what will happen at OCS? Twice already...

                      • I wonder what will happen after he flunks out a few more times and turns 29 (age limit IIRC). Will he then come up with an even more convoluted plan?

                        • I didn't flunk out. I was injured. What the ****? I couldn't undo the god damn x-ray that showed fractures in both my tibiae.

And the previous time, I fell 20 feet and strained my back.

Huh? What are you talking about? People got injured and sent home right and left. We had two guys fall from the rope and break their legs. We had numerous cases of hypothermia, one guy even had some heart abnormality because of it. There were plenty of people with fractures, such as myself.

USMC OCS attrition for 10-week class (NOT PLC) is 30-50%.

I'm pretty sure all the running in boots on concrete because the snow covered the forest trails where we would normally run caused my injuries. That and a specific incident which resulted in a dozen guys from my platoon having foot, ankle, and shin issues that resulted in several of us getting sent home the same week.
