It's amazing to me the two biggest idiots on Apolyton attempt to call me stupid in every thread. At least Oerdin is smart enough to keep his posts to one line caveman grunts so he has less to be hit with. Al on the other hand can't help but fall face first into every thread I make, diving in with glee over and over into a shallow 1 foot deep kiddy pool.

I was just mentioning this to my wife last night.. that people rarely search deeper than a passing thought on this question. But if they really wanted to know the truth about their purpose, they could find it out - it isn't some great secret; but it is a refreshing truth once discovered.

I'm not sure how it's refreshing.

You're born. You reproduce (optional). You die.

          Amazing really.

I'm banking on not doing that last one (or the second one).

It goes down smooth and has a pleasant, subtle aftertaste.

Actually this brings up an interesting question. Will there be enough advances in genetic research and other areas that will allow us to extend our life significantly in our lifetime? We don't even need immortality, just enough extension to make it long enough for us to be around when they finally do discover immortality. At least as far as the definition of immortality goes since there's no such thing as never ending.

Some call this the longevity escape velocity. If average life expectancy increases more than one year per year, then an individual could begin to expect to live indefinitely. There's an unpopular sub-section of the gerontology discipline dedicated toward medical technologies designed to achieve this.

To be honest, I'm just using my tech side to make enough money to pay for schooling to get into genetic engineering. I believe genetic engineering is humanity's future. Once I get a job in IT security I'd like to start off by majoring in bio chemistry.

good luck with that. You're going to go back and get a second (or third) bachelors?

Third and I'll follow it up with a masters and then get my PHD. It's a longer term goal. Right now my main goal is to get a job in IT security and then get my masters in that while I work as well. So when it's all said and done I'll have 3 bachelors degree, 2 masters, and 1 Phd.

Great! You'll start working in your field before your 50th birthday!

Nah, probably around 40 or so. It's fine. I don't really want to ever retire. I plan to do research until the day I die.

Actually, you're unlikely to be accepted into a quality biochemistry MS/PhD program without a related undergraduate degree. This isn't med/law/business school. In fact, if your goal is to do research, from what I've seen of your background, you are going in the wrong direction.
