  • I will be insane during the month of November.

I made a thread about this two years ago, and I'm doing it again. November is NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month - where participants are tasked with excreting 50,000 words organized in an original fashion and dressed up as narrative, plot, and dialogue.

This year I'm doing a first contact story between 22nd century Earth and an alien entity/construct that pops into existence outside the solar system. My characters include an astrophysicist educated in a virtual environment populated by AIs, an exobiologist born in space and searching for life on Europa, and a genetically engineered sexless Chinese clone fomenting a rebellion on Ceres.

    Anyone else participating?

I was going to do this.

I am away for a long weekend, am insanely busy at work, have tons of other stuff going on and generally can't imagine where I'll get any time to write.

    Should be fun.

Haven't thought about plot, characters or any of that stuff yet.

Well, I'm sure if you spent less time moderating here and more time in front of the old typewriter, you'd be fine.

As discussed with Funko on CG, I shall be participating in my usual half-arsed way in projects like this. Hopefully it will represent some sort of kick start to my own ideas, seeing that a friend of mine has recently got published, not to mention Galnemer, is an inspiration. Though most likely this will only be a personal project...

          Good luck!

I am working on the basis that I can comfortably type at 50+ wpm, and I can think faster than I can type, 1500 words a day should take half an hour. Right?

I see you're a theory guy. In practice, those are pretty high expectations.

I won't be participating; I prefer to get paid for my writing. Plus, I was long ago drained of original thoughts.

                Yeah, obviously I was joking.

I'd prefer to get paid for writing too. But I enjoy doing it and very rarely make time to do any, so hopefully this will be fun but also good motivation to get back into it. Which is what I think it's really for.

If you are writing regularly anyway and getting paid, why would you bother?

Wouldn't we all? If only it were a simple matter of preference.

if work doesn't pick up next month, i might actually give this a go.

maybe write something about a young surgeon on the run in south america...
