And as I already clarified at least once, I don't have any opposition to other members joining permanent security council if they warrant it.

So what exactly are you arguing against?
Hey man, I'm not disputing that you have a veto power to prevent you from getting removed, but if that's the reason why you(the UK) should remain on the Security Concil, that's a pretty stupid one. Since the UK is dramatically decreasing both it's ability to project power and it's nuclear deterrence whilst countries like India are doing to opposite...whelp, I'm not sure why saying "we're 4th largest by spending this way our female troops can get boob jobs as a jobs benefit" is a good metric either.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

Why should anyone give a damn about the UN anyway?
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

Well, if you're one of the has-been insignificant powers of Europe, then the UN is a nice way to pretend you're still important.

EVEN THOUGH WE ARE SPENDING LESS WE ARE STILL SPENDING MORE THAN INDIA AND STILL HAVE MORE NUKES

Also, unlike the US, our military is filled with highly trained professionals, not semi-literate goons with no self control, who can't tell friend from foe and who are only able to barely function effectively due to their massive equipment budget.

The UK is still important, because it can call on the armys of all the commonwealth countries. Which would amount to a huge army.

                No we can't.

Yeah, watched the Colditz story on TV last night and the Americans first reaction was to start firing on it the moment they saw it, despite it already being the most famous European POW camp in WWII...

It took the British prisoners to hastily make a Union Jack flag before they would stop firing.

PS All these are currently proposals at the moment, but even I can't get my head around the fact that we could be ending up with Aircraft Carriers without the planes to fly from them - I nearly drove off the road in shock when I heard that!

The Harriers apparently have an operational life until 2025 - is it really that expensive to keep them flying until we have the replacement!!?

Again, if Labour hadn't wasted all that money on the Iraq war, we wouldn't be having these problems...

I'm sure socialism and an enormous bureaucratic government filled with labor unions and other blood sucking vermin had absolutely nothing to do with your financial woes. Clearly it was the paltry contribution you made to Afghanistan and Iraq. This is just one more reason why the US should pull their bases out of Europe. It's pretty clear that the Europeans are incapable of fielding a decent size military if they can't even afford what little they have done in Iraq and Afghanistan. The sad thing is that the UK is actually probably the most powerful country in terms of military in Europe, yet they are this pathetic, so you can imagine what the rest of Europe is like. Europe is a sinking ship, the US should just get out.
