Why bother trying to give albie career advice? He's obviously happy living in a **** neighborhood, not having a job/working some ****ty job, pretending that he's going to complete OCS one of these days and whining that he didn't score a home run straight out of college with his mediocre degree due to racism.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

Working hard isn't enough (even granting the assumption that getting through an undergrad finance degree is particularly difficult)
Working hard when you're told what the hard work to do is, and what you'll be given as a result is far different than self-motivating when nobody tells you the path to take and the rewards are uncertain.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

When I was doing it I'd usually work every day but Sunday for 9-12 hours a day depending on exactly what was happening each day.Originally posted by Maniac View PostInspired by KrazyHorse's bragging thread.
As someone living in the paradisial states of Western Europe, I have trouble imagining this.
Is that a five-day work week, meaning twelve hours per day?
Do you perhaps count your lunchbreaks among those sixty hours??
How many hours do you spend in transport between your workplace and home?
How many hours do you sleep per night?
When do you buy your bread and other stuff? Aren't the shops already closed by the time you get home??
Do you have kids?
Do you have hobbies?
No, it's just billable hours for me.
I live about 15 minutes from work by car; 30-40 by bike but I'm far to lazy to actually ride a bike.
8.
Everything is open 24/7 here except some small mom & pop type places but even most of them are open from 8 or 9 am to 9pm.
No.
Yes, mostly fishing and hiking.
It's been a long time since I worked 60 hours a week though and these days I pretty much just work my 40 hours and go home. Becoming a government contractor was a great move for me because you get the higher pay of the private sector but your client is the government so they're used to sloppy shoddy work plus they take an enormous number of days off with pay (by American standards). It's a pretty good way to live.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

I'd probably LIVE in the office if I was getting an investment banking analyst salary of $40K or so.
To both making $9 and thinking an Investment Banking Analyst makes $40k. You're off by a factor of three, easily, on the analyst's incoming depending on size of bonus.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

1) Salary right now is more ~$110 with bonus possibilities (which tend to follow the economy more than anything else). Job is EEOriginally posted by KrazyHorse View Post1) What profession are you engaged in that pays you 135k a year for a 40hr week in the Dallas area?
2) If you'd been paying attention, you would have noted that I work for a salary plus year-end comp, the latter being the most important part of my remuneration.
2) I did not see your compensation mentioned in this thread sorry, unless you mean the 60k+15k comment, is the 15k what you are talking about: Are you saying that you are not good enough to earn it without the extra hours (productivity issues?)We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

A lot of times Walmart will demand a Walmart only product with a lower thread count or less elasticity so that they can be cheaper then places like Target. The bottom line is Walmarts low prices usually do mean lower quality as well.Originally posted by Aeson View PostYah, the Hanes I buy in Target are 10x better than the Hanes I buy in Walmart

A petroleum engineer or a geologist can both make $135k working just 40 here and, I suspect, even in darkest Texas.Originally posted by KrazyHorse View Post1) What profession are you engaged in that pays you 135k a year for a 40hr week in the Dallas area?

Heck I make slightly less then that and usually only work 40 unless there is a quarterly report or field work which needs to be done on the weekend. Not bad for a guy who couldn't be bothered to go to grad school or start his own business. It's all about finding a niche and filling it so that you become indefensible to your employer even in a downturn when other folks are getting laid off.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

It's like Space Cowboy said, most professionals are on salary so there is little incentive to work more then 40 unless it's for a very good reason. Heck, there are a ton of science and engineering jobs which start at $90k with just a four year degree and no experience so $135k with a couple of years experience isn't very hard even with just a four year degree and working 40 a week.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
