Well, everything I hear from evangelicals hints at them placing more value into the old testament (things like "an eye for an eye", "divine revenge" and "homosexuality [or everything I define as immoral] is an abomination", "women are inferior to men" etc. ) while caring only a little about things that came with Jesus (like grace of charity, forgive the sinners etc. )

Therefore I assumed, knowledge about christian principles would be their weak point

It stands to reason that a significant portion of atheists were driven to it by their experiences within hypocritical organized religions. That would explain their knowledge. They were the ones that asked difficult questions and found the answers unsatisfactory. So it's no surprise that they know more than the unquestioning people who stuck with their religion.

I'm sure no-one's surprised by this.
Duh. Higher IQ groups on average retain and absorb more general religious knowledge. The exception in this case are of course Mormons who seem to be average.

Having to argue in favor of one's religious convicitions or having to keep explaining them to others is probably a important factor with Mormons and Atheists knowledge being comparable to the Jewish score.

Also Hispanics are probably below Black Protestants because of the Catholic Church's historic monopoly on religion in Mexico.

Huh? About how many times was the phrase "shall be put to death" used? About a dozen in Exodus and Leviticus alone?

Oh, but Jesus came along and changed all that, right?
              Unbelievable!

There is a difference between a theocracy and a democracy.

In the Bible narrative, at the time of the 'shall be put to death commands' Israel was suppose to be following God (which they did a bad job of). They were a theocracy.

Christ made it clear that He wasn't interested in an earthly kingdom now. That was for a different time in place, from Christ until His return we are to be preparing for His heavenly kingdom. This can be done in any Christian friendly (but not necessarily Christian) nation, whether it is a Monarchy or Democracy or something else. Whether the nation has the right to put people to death (without direction to do so by God) is a point of argument.

I got 14 too. Failed question 10. According to rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court, is a public school teacher permitted to lead a class in prayer, or not?

The answer surprised me a bit. Seems another asterisk needs to be added to the Land of the Free*.

15/15... it's amazing that only 11% of the American public got the First Great Awakening question right when there's only three options. We're worse than monkeys

It's because they re not guessing. I don't really expect all that many people to actually know that question.

Yeah, what the deuce was the First Great Awakening? The other questions all seem positively elementary.

The morality doesn't even matter on that level. Although I think the risk of a wrongful execution is another major factor against.

Not sure why an illogical thirst for revenge should trump those two facts.
