For example, many older Spaniards and Portugese will reminisce about the Franco and Salazar years, just as many Argentines will tell you that the military coups in the 60s and 70s (especially the government from 78-83) were necessary and that the liberal, democratic regimes of the period were characterized by corruption and bad governance.
In any case, your point in incredibly silly, as the military governments were even more corrupt and inefficient, to the point of declaring war on ****ing Great Britain, and actually expecting the US to be on our side.Indifference is Bliss

NATO is really nothing more than a miniature UN. It's completely useless and it can basically be boiled down to US military support and funding. We should just disband NATO and let the little socialist Europeans field their own army for once. That is of course if they're even still capable of it seeing as how they can't even prevent their cities from being conquered by Muslims without even firing a shot.

You do not understand the Cold War era.
also
in general
NB: I don't think NATO has much of a point anymore and would be in favor of abandoning it.If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

I'm well aware of its use during the cold war, but that was 20 years ago. It has no use anymore and obviously the Europeans didn't have much use to begin with. They should just accept their place in history as hasbeen powers that now hold no significance in the world.

If the Republicans had won the Spanish Civil war then you'd be telling us what a great job they did between 1936-1972. The reality is that when Franco died and Spain entered the EU Spain was pretty much a **** hole. It was the poorest state in western Europe (even losing to Ireland and Portugal at the time, ouch) by PPP per capita income and it's infrastructure was so bad the EU has spent the last 40 years giving them subsidies to try to modernize the place. Let's be honest and say Franco wasn't much of a positive factor.
In 1974 Spain had a nominal gdp per capita of 8149 dollars (in Geary–Khamis dollars), Portugal 7048 and Ireland 7042
in 1987 Spain had a percapita gdp of 6010 dollars, Ireland 6030, Portugal 2890 according to that same year Encyclopaedia Britannica
I don't deny that Spaniards have received a lot of help in subsidies since joining the EU, they are lucky to be in EuropeI need a foot massage

I said PPP not nominal. Spain was handicapped prior to joining the EU because they didn't have free trade while places like Ireland and Portugal did thus the nominal cost of stuff was higher and the PPP adjustment was fairly large.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
