              They can be more social. I love playing a good game of Settlers or Carcassonne with friends and family and a tumbler of scotch.

                          Adding to what Asher said about the social thing, board games are physical and tactile. They look good on the table. You can play them with friends/family in an inn or cottage on holiday in the mountains, when it's nice to be away from computers for a change.

                                Risk is my go-to game, though finding other players is difficult.

                                Battlestar Galactica
                                Game of Thrones (only played it once, but it was perhaps the most engrossing strategy board game I've ever played)
