  • Does Pushing Walk Buttons At Lights Do Anything?

I am at an intersection and the is a WALK button I am to PRESS if I want to cross on foot. But it does not seem to do anything. Is it just there to make me feel as though I have made the traffic light go faster without really having done so ie the butterfly effect? Angry

It only works if you have a soul.

What does any of this have to do with the fact that you're gay and that you need to come out?

If you believe they work they'll work for you, but it might not be in the way you expect.

You need to take an empirical approach, Wiglaugh.

Assuming you regularly use this crossing, use the stopwatch facility on your iphone to compile some data on the durations involved when the button is or is not pressed. Eventually a pattern may emerge which might assist you in determining an answer to this question.

The newer ones as far as I know don't make the light change faster, they increase the amount of time the light stays to give you enough time to walk across the road.

I can only speak for the ones I've experienced. They will turn all the lights red on the next cycle allowing people to cross from anywhere on the intersection. Otherwise, the crosswalk will operate as usual.

In the UK, if the crossing is in any way involved in any form of vaguely complex traffic light system (i.e. anything more than an isolated junction), then the answer is an emphatic no - otherwise yes.

No response from Wiggy. We can only assume he has been hit by a car.

In my experience, the "press to walk" buttons don't change the duration of the red light, but merely activate the "walk" light on the upcoming cycle.
