Really the only downside is a potential lack of diversification in the sweatshop related industries. But it doesn't just have to be sweatshops. The EVIL8000 would include slant oil drilling, toxic waste disposal, seal clubbing, and all sorts of EVIL ****. Anything EVIL and profitable would be considered.

Actually, now that I think of it, those poor bastards might get lynched if they try for non-feces-related employment. But yes, I'm sure a sweatshop would be much better than that, albeit I'm guessing they would get a world of hurt for taking a job that could have been taken by someone from the garbage-sorters, or whatever caste is above them. It's just that "their other options are even worse" doesn't strike me as very compelling, since by that definition pretty much nothing is exploitative.
