I've no idea what that is.

      Here:

Who said men cant wear slip-ons? During these summer days I’ve opted for a pair of espadrilles undeniably more than any of my many shoes; most of which stay trapped in my closet failing to see this season’s daylight. Perhaps it’s the sheer simplicity that compliments almost any outfit, adding a clean, cool, laid-back feel. There is no question that France and Spain are home to some of the most stylish individuals. With that being said, its easy to see why espadrilles have been quite popular across the pond for some time now. Espadrilles are viewed by many men in the U.S. as “too feminine”, this summer however I’m seeing more and more men harvesting the courage to struct confidently in these badboys.

The espadrille, a canvas sandal with a flexible rope bottom was popularized by the french during the 19th century. This hand crafted shoe was often constructed in the village streets with the alpargateros (espadrille maker) creating the rope sole while the seamstresses sewed the fabric at the bands. Espadrilles are certainly not made to last, they are a preferred shoe by many in the spring and summer months because the sole forms itself to the shape of one’s foot and allows it to breath.
      Espadrilles:

"I have nothing against Wilson, but he's nowhere near the same calibre of QB as Flutie. Flutie threw for 5k+ yards in the CFL." -Ben Kenobi

Congratulations, anyway! Did she wade her way through an agent/publishing company's slush pile, or did she know somebody?
She knew an author, who put her in touch with her editor. She sent the editor the first three chapters of Embers, and was offered a contract for Embers and a sequel (Sparks). Then she sent the first few chapters of Dark Oracle, and got another contract for that and a sequel (under her psuedonym).

Nonsense. It makes the sentence unambiguous. The extra comma aids in parsing.

It's not stilted -- there should be a slight pause between each element of the list...even for the last element.

The sentence was already unambiguous. Obviously it's subjective, but my reading gives a much heavier pause with the comma than sounds natural.

                      Congrats to Galnemer -

is the book easily found in the big bookstore chains?

Also, do authors have much say regarding cover art? That is something I have always wondered.

#1: Yes. At least, I assume so; it's in all the Barnes and Noble stores around here in Columbus, and my family had no difficulty finding it in Detroit.

#2: Almost none. They can make suggestions, which the publisher can freely disregard, as is their wont.

I got my mom 3 of Galnemer's books for Christmas (with the help of none other than the very kind Galnemer herself), autographed.

She started and finished Embers in two days, and loved it. She's added Laura Bickle to her list of authors to buy up when new releases come out (she's a very avid reader...and this is very much her genre).

She's also spreading the good word to her friends with similar interests.

Congrats, Galnemer (and Guynemer too, I suppose) Well done.

Also, Guy -- you're an amateur astronomer?

                              Congrats Guy & Gal!

I do wonder however why KH, Laz and others haven't flooded this thread accusing you of being a spammer for promoting your wife's book. I guess they are just *******s who have it out for me for some inexplicable reason.

Not that I'm trying to hijack this thread, I think it is really awesome that your wife is having success as a writer, it is a really difficult thing to get into and have success in. So huge kudos! It certainly takes a lot of courage and persistence to set out on your own like that.
