I see nobody's mentioned Lucien Freud or Millais yet. These threads are proving to be great ways of outing the uninformed.

Germany makes some of the greatest wines in the world.

It does also make a lot of cheap horrible stuff, but the same is true of France, Italy, Spain or California.
