On the other side of the political spectrum. That area is actually a temperate rainforest, and is full of the outdoorsy types. The biggest industry is tourism, as I recall.

I'm sorry but that's just not true. We're talking about Federal transfer payments not transfer payments with in the state. Alaska is a massive, and I truly mean massive, welfare queen who sucks up vast amounts of Federal money but pays very little back in return. They're welfare queens extraordinaire. This is especially true on a per capita level (which is the only way to really judge apples to apples).

Alaska, on a per capita basis, makes most of the southern states look good and the southern states are absolutely horrible welfare cases who suck up Federal money while paying very little in both absolute and especially in per capita terms.

Data for this? I know Virginia takes a lot of federal money, but for the most part VA has military stuff that would have to be there anyway, like the Pentagon or the shipyards.

Virginia does take a lot of government cheese but it also has a large population and a productive private sector so it's per capita numbers aren't too bad. I believe it is even a net tax payer. There are tons of maps showing who the moochers and who the tax payers are around, they've been posted here numerous times, so I'll let you do a bit of work since they're common knowledge and I don't feel like spending energy educating you.

Supposedly Alaska gets $1.84 of federal spending for every dollar in taxes it pays. Virginia only gets $1.51. California gets $0.78. Most states are parasitic leeches stealing money from the big states.

Poor New Jersey only gets $0.61 back on every $1 they pay in taxes. They need better congressional representation.

BTW in absolute terms both New Mexico and Mississippi are bigger welfare queens than Alaska (1,2,3 place) but you have to remember the population difference.

I imagine it costs a little more to live in Alaska.

So it's not that they take more cash it's that they aren't grateful enough?

Virginia is a big state. 11th or 12th or something in population.

Also Alaska would be fine without the federal dollars, at least the worthwhile parts of Alaska, due to oil money. If Alaska stopped getting federal money then the Native Americans there would be hosed but places like Anchorage would be fine. As I mentioned before the Alaska natives don't vote Republican nearly so strongly.

I don't mind helping out our backwards countrymen because without the help of the well off states the backwards states (nearly all of whom vote Republican) would be worse than most 3rd world ****holes. What pisses me off to no end is after we've spent decades and hundreds of billions of dollars helping those worthless & unproductive red necks those arrogant bastards have the gall to lecture us about being productive and pretend as if their **** don't stink. **** those ingrates and right now I'm ok with them all dying at age 40 from easily preventable illness because they're too stupid to enact their own public health programs yet rage against the ones we, the rich states, give to them for nothing.

Maybe after 10% of their population has died unnecessarily the dumb asses will figure out what a failure libertarianism is and that the government actually serves some useful purpose.

That's not only highly inaccurate but also highly bigoted.
