A belated Happy Birthday, Apolyton Civilization Site.
I am disappointed to learn that you still feel that way, AAHZ. If what you say were true, I would have shut the site down rather than work to ensure a transition of ownership so that did not happen; I also publicly acknowledged that it was time for me to step aside when that transition was announced in addition to doing so. That I am even able to take this aside with you here is a further acknowledgment that I left ACS in capable hands. That is what was, and is, important for this site and community.Originally posted by AAHZ View Post[DanQ] cared moar for his own radio show and personal popularity, using this site as a stage, instead of the site itself and community.
Robert, Jeroen and company: I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in store for Apolyton CS as, I have seen and heard some refer to it, "Poly 2.0". (Can I quibble with the version number?
)
Hmmmm. The definition of "founded" includes "to set up or establish on a firm basis or for enduring existence". If it had been "discovered", then would it not in fact have existed before?Originally posted by Japher View Postfounded, even though it didn't exist before... I think the word "founded" should be replaced with the word "discovered"
Isn't the English language colourful?

There's the "enduring existence" part I mention above in practice.

That sounds more like you're blaming Apolyton.Originally posted by Robert Plomp View PostWithout Apolyton I would not have learned about civ3, civ4 and civ5. That would have saved me tens of thousands of hours.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Yes. I was quite shy in the beginning though, just reading the threads... Took a couple of months before I even registered and then some more to feel comfortable enough to post.Originally posted by Boris Godunov View PostIs there anyone here now who has been on poly the entire 12 years?
(For long periods of time since then I have not been posting)
DaveV would be another longtime Apolytoner still active (?), and (of course) Ming and rah (or are they not active here anymore?).
I also followed the Civ 2 strategy discussions (but was not registered as a user) on the two sites that eventually merged into Apolyton: Mark's The First Greek Civilization Site (or something similar) and Dan's The Ultimate Civilization Site (IIRC).
I seem to remember that a heck of a lot of posters always wrote Theban instead of Theben...
Edited: Forgot to raise a glass to our dear Apolyton!

BTW, there's been some changes (to say the least!
) since I last looked at my profile. How do I make the things under "Additional information" publicly available?
It used to be visible under our handles in every post... You know, "Interests" would be seen under "Posts: 3041" etc.
Thanks for any input!

There were a bunch of people that came to Apolyton from the original two sites that merged. So if you count our time on those two sites as well, many have been around even longerOriginally posted by Theben View PostThe Julyers are mostly Markos, DanQ, Ming and rah.

Similar timeframe for me. But I think I showed up in September/October, from the old Alpha OWO site.Originally posted by Theben View Post

I basically lurked a few times for Civ2 but didn't actually register until I heard CTP2 was coming out.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.
