Maybe people are determined to believe in free will?

You're all a bunch of bots, deal with it.

Seriously, why don't more people take up Solipsism?

Realistically, I go back and forth with this. If you use the analogy of the universe as a closed bottle with all of the matter around akin to water in a bottle then it would seem that the patterns of matter would be rather predictable given sufficient resources.

Though I think the brain may serve as a closed system in itself. Of course the skull, skin and Blood Brain Barrier give it robust protection from the chaotic soup of atoms outside. Naturally some things make it through. Bullets are one example, but have little effect other than destroying the system. Molecules make it there too but are often altered rather significantly by the metabolic processing of the body (even then few make it through the Blood Brain Barrier).

So I think it could be possible that a self aware self directed system could arise within a presumably chaotic one. Though as Mr. Ariely points out, that is not the end of the argument. It seems that much consideration must be taken for a decision to be unobstructed by the canker of outside influence. Free Will isn't free...apparently.
