I'm not arguing that speed should be accessible over the counter.
Again, any thoughts on why steroids and HGH are even illegal to begin with?
You know that those drugs are available via prescription?

yeah but not for the purposes that athletes and bodybuilders use them for

Well at least I'm not accusing other posters of being crack dealers.
No really, gribbler. Your info says you're a 19 year old student so I know full well you know that being high on weed doesn't stop anyone from driving and that weed is a big time impairment of judgment. Think about your schoolmates!
It does seem that weed can really help you focus on mundane tasks though. High employees are great maintenance workers!

Am I going too far out on the limb here by suggesting that steroids and HGH should be legal before weed?

It's ridiculous to compare steroids and pot. It's moronic. I'm not buying the statistics Al offered up on steroid related deaths.
It's a for sure that trips to the ER that he cited were kids who had rarely smoked and were suffering more from panic attack than pot related problems.

Sloww, I'll tell you some negative things about weed that you can't say about steroids or HGH... its mind-altering and reduces someone's capacity to make decisions (there are weed-related driving fatalities, for example), it can be socially destructive (there are plenty of people who fit the stereotype of the unproductive pothead), and it can be addictive. Steroids are none of those things.
It's actually kind of troubling for me that there is such a strong weed lobby but no one is lobbying for steroids and HGH to be legal even though there's no good reason why they even are illegal!

What exactly are you taking issue with? Weed IS mind-altering by definition. It can be addictive.
As for the positives... I said weed is good for motivating maintenance workers!
I'm just saying that if we're going to legalize any illicit drug in this country, HGH and steroids should take precedence since there's a lot less reason for them to be illegal to begin with. If weed is legalized and HGH is not...
(just to make it clear... I don't use the stuff and probably would never use it but I find that fact that it is illegal bizarre, especially after watching that documentary)

Can ANYONE provide a good reason why HGH and steroids are illegal? I'm flabbergasted that you all could be for the legalization of weed but not steroids!
Another thing to consider is that there is a huge market for 'steroid-like' supplements. The problem with these unregulated supplements is that many of them have turned out to be deadly and far riskier than steroids but the market only exists for them because people try to find legal alternatives.

why is that assumed to be a negative?
and reduces someone's capacity to make decisions (there are weed-related driving fatalities, for example)
Like there aint none when pot isn't involved? Where are these studies showing pot smokers are more dangerous? I've seen 2 that showed older drivers who use pot are not more dangerous, they know how the drug effects them (like the drug ads on TV say, dont use heavy machinery until you know the effects of the drug - DUH!).

More people smoke pot, wtf is impairing you

You are impaired, I never said steroids should be illegal.
Why don't we just legalize all drugs, but impose stiffer penalties on crimes committed under the influence?
So, smoke crack all you want, but the second you knock over a convenience store after smoking crack, you get 15 years in prison without parole?
Or, even better, stop giving violent criminals second chances. If the argument against legalizing drugs is that drugs cause crime, then why don't you address the crime problem by imposing stiff mandatory minimums? After all, it isn't drugs that cause the crime, it's the people. A joint doesn't commit ****. Cocaine doesn't commit **** either. Granted, people high on drugs commit crimes, but it's also true that a)people NOT high on drugs commit crimes and b)people high on drugs DON'T commit crimes.
As for the issue of dealing to minors, that's just an emotionally charged issue that people like idiot mothers use instead of a real argument. Hello? We don't allow cigarettes, alcohol, and M-rated games to be sold to minors, right? So without getting into the issue of "what's the right age?", let's just stipulate that the same rules that apply to cigarettes should apply to drugs. Or, if you prefer, alcohol - although the 21 rule is seriously idiotic, but that's a different argument.
The point here is that Sarah Palin is mostly right, and Ben is entirely wrong (although to be fair, Ben isn't the only one - millions of uninformed people in both the US and Canada agree with him).
