Think of all the public leaders who would have to admit that they were wrong.

It's the same reason why we're still fighting the Taliban even though Al Qaeda is largely gone from Afghanistan.
          John Brown did nothing wrong.

Are you saying that the government manufactures problems in order to solve them? What are you, some kind of libertarian??

I can see the argument for decriminalisation, but recent events have changed my mind on this. I think it should be kept illegal, with higher punishments for dealers.

I wrote the first line and then quickly edited and added the second - realizing that the first on its own could be misconstrued as agreement with Ben.

Please don't put him on the spot. Some of us know who he is in RL.

As for the OP, I'm of two minds about it. At heart, it seems to me to be a practical issue. Society has every right to lock up pot users, but maybe it is at a point where we cannot as a practical matter lock them up without locking up a large portion of the population. I don't wish to make a large portion of the population into criminals.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
