What do you want out of these people? Are they employees, working a 9-5 for a paycheck? Or are they your base of growth? Do you want these particular people to be become division heads and executives or are they just rank and file?
If you view them as employees and they view themselves that way, then you are not ever going to motivate them by focusing on your needs. If you want them to perform better, find out what motivates them, individually and see if you can find a way to align your company growth with each person's goals.
If you view them as your future leadership, then still take the individual approach, but frame the discussion in terms of how this particular person can help move the company where you want it to go.
