    $1.2 Billion for bike paths...

    The Obama administration more than doubled spending on cycling and walking initiatives to $1.2 billion (£810 million) last year as it seeks to coax Americans out of their cars.
    Spending on biking and walking projects rose from less than $600 million (£407 million) in 2008, according to the Federal Highway Administraion. Twenty years ago, the federal government was spending only $6 million a year on such projects.


    I'm all for encouraging Americans to not be lazy but $1.2 billion last year? What are they even spending this money on?

    Why do you care? Virtually none of this is your money.

    On the other hand, approximately 86$ of my money went to it.

      Toronto would spend that much on the downtown core alone for bike ****

          Isn't this some type of debate fallacy? Like the loss of freedoms in the US isn't a problem because other countries have much less freedoms? Arguments like that?

                  That's a couple orders of magnitude smaller than federal highway spending. The horror!

                      I still want to know what they're spending money on? It's obvious where highway money goes. Where does this go?

                            How cheap do you think it is to construct bike lanes? Roads have to be widened in a lot of cases.

                              I don't own a bike. Justify my family's expenditure of 140$ per annum.
