Bars aren't public forums. I have no problem with it.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Okay then...His advisers make comments about what The Boss thinks about the President and The Boss doesn't deny the sentiments but somehow that's okay so long as he didn't actually say it himself?

He's not denying the accuracy of the article Dan.

Yep. That's OK. They can't speak for him.

Right. Reporters stop doing their job when the booze flows. Come on.

Alright then. You think it's okay for a general to let it be known he thinks the President and his staff are a bunch of weenies.

Strange position but I guess you are entitled to it.

I don't think he "let it be known." We're now holding second-hand thoughts against people?

If my advisers were making statements about my thoughts/opinions that weren't true you can be damn sure I'd be making that known. Particularly when said comments could be a career-ender.

To think McChrystal is bending over and allowing himself to be ****ed for things he didn't say simply isn't credible.

The fact of the matter is that he appears to be manning up to making the comments. Something his apologists haven't yet brought themselves around to doing.

You know for a fact that the interview was done in a bar?

One of the interviews with Team America was. They knew about the presence of the reporter. It was by no means an ambush.

Rolling Stone executive editor Eric Bates, however, struck a less optimistic tone during an interview with CNN on Tuesday.

The comments made by McChrystal and other top military aides during the interview were "not off-the-cuff remarks," he said. They "knew what they were doing when they granted the access." The story shows "a deep division" and "war within the administration" over strategy in Afghanistan, he contended.

Also if memory serves its not so much the penagon that Risen has gotten cozy with but moreso CIA.

I don't know if that's still the case, but Risen did co-author a book with Milt Bearden, the CIA's top guy in Pakistan/Afghanistan during the period of greatest cooperation against the Soviets between the U.S. and the Afghan mujahedeen.

I imagine State of War burned some of Risen's bridges with the CIA, however.
