it was offside, not when he received the ball when he made the goal, but 10secs earlier, when he got the ball then, passed it back, then got it again and scored. not to mention that the spanish goal started with denying a 100prct full in your face corner to Holland. spain was the best, they deserved the cup, but the referee played against holland. we are partly to blame for that ourselves, b/c of the 2 early huge faults of De Jong and Van Bommel, but it was clearly the case. not to mention the denial of a 100prct penalty to Robben.
I have peace with the result b/c Spain was the better team, but it was not as if the ref had no role
CS, I have allways thought you to be an upstanding individual, and as a new found convert with no dog in the hunt, not like all these experts here whose passion lit a flame in me, but from a pure novice in International Football, please, no need to go down that road, you are an Honorable man, please, while its an attempt to get the last word in, and similiar to spilled milk, lets not interject heresy into this thread, I mean, not like you own this place or anything

Could you please point me to that penalty foul by a video?
I only remember a close-to penalty attack against a Spanish player. Also, there was no freaking offside before the goal, no matter how often I repeat to watch it.
The corner, yes, of course, but that had no direct causal connection with the goal, just like all the other grave errors made by Webb, 90% of which were in favor of the Dutch, so don't complain.

drake i was going to respond to your post, but since your arguments have already been demolished by others, i'll simply repeat that you know nothing about football.

No, they haven't. No one has provided a convincing explanation for why Europe deserves such a disproportionate share of World Cup spots. People have voiced their opinion that Europe has so many great teams that it needs 40% of the World Cup spots just to include all the great teams available, but this is clearly contradicted by the performance of several European teams at this World Cup. New Zealand performed better than many European teams, for god's sake...

At this world cup, 75% of the semi-finalists were European despite a number of their teams exhibiting major suckage. At the previous, 100% were.
Surely only ~40% of semi-finalists should be European if that is their representation at the start of the tournament. Unless ...
If there had been only one European semi-finalist then you would be making a good point.

the wc alone doesnt have enuff matches to determind stuff like that. you would have to look at the world rankings that is based on a much longer time period.
at first i was actaully going to agree whit you that south america deserved more spots, but at the expensive of other continets. but then i looked at the diffrent world rankings and its pretty clear that eu should have more spots at the expense of all other continets, including south american.
So 19 and 18 European teams in the top 32 in those tables. They're not the best measures, of course - the best ranking would be to have the top teams teams all play each other in a league, which is obviously never going to happen.
Anything can happen, though, in a cup competition, but even so, only four teams are multiple winners in the modern (post-war) era - Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Italy. These are the four superpowers in world football, historically speaking, and they are from the two continents that supply *all* the winners.
Who would be the two sides to put money on now for the next world cup? Spain and Germany for me.
