I don't know of a school around here that makes you take a drug test for anything. Police might make you take a drug test but I think they have to have probable cause.

Sports and extra-curricular activities... drug testing was tied in with the funding for those if I recall correctly. And where's around here?

In Vernonia School District v. Acton (1995), the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of random drug testing for students who participate in school athletics. In the Board of Education v. Earls (2002), the Court expanded Vernonia to include students who participate in any type of competitive extracurricular activity.

I graduated high school in 2003 so I don't know if Philly instituted it or not although there apparently was a bit of a fuss about it. Can't tell searching online if it was implemented. Still, considering we have metal detectors and ID's in response to school violence, I imagine there would be drug testing in response to drug issues.

Although potheads aren't usually really known for playing sports and doing extracurriculars...

As for the innocent, they would be those people who some posters here are claiming would allow themselves or their daughters or their sisters to be "sold"... that is certainly not the case.

Sometimes they read these things over my shoulder, like today. A couple of them have logins here even, though I doubt they ever check the forums now that Lancer isn't posting pictures anymore. But in any case, if you could refrain from insults that involve them directly that would be great.

And that is different from hiring drunks how?

What you do on your own time is your own business, not your master's employer's. If you (or I) have a substance abuse problem that impairs the ability to perform the job in question, then yes there is an issue.

Newsflash: Canabis use isn't anymore addictive or debilitating than alcohol use.


There is a WORLD of difference between a casual user and an addict. (think about the difference between someone who has a drink or two to wind down after work and a hard core alcoholic).
