So you suggest that we remove a bulk of the poor americans with inadequate health care from the study and that would fix it? And you don't see a problem with that?

They don't have rednecks that don't believe in organic products either.

I promise you if every american believed in eating organic this country would be a lot healthier.

Americans are generally stupid and don't care about their health.

You don't do either of those things do you? And you are going to tell us what to eat?

In short, are you asserting that either

          1. these measures do not contribute to earlier detection of medical problems OR
          2. That early detection does not lead to better resolution of medical issues

You see, on its face I find your seeming lack of support for preventative medicine to be a little perplexing
You're not the only one perplexed. I always thought the earlier you detect a serious illness or disease, the better off you will be.

I think kid just accused me of being a redneck. I live in DC, you idiot. Like, one of the most urban areas of the country.

Also, Riesstiu: I'm about 2 pounds above being UNDERweight

So you suggest that we remove a bulk of the poor americans with inadequate health care from the study and that would fix it? And you don't see a problem with that?

I know that no matter what I say, you will dig your heels in and commit yourself to ignorance. If someone else wants to explain why leaving poor minorities in the study as akin to comparing apples to oranges, and why removing them is not racist, please do, as I do not have the patience to tutor this statistics failure.

EDIT: Perhaps I should clarify as I've previously mentioned that I live in Virginia--I live in a DC suburb in northern Virginia. The Washington metropolitan area has an absolutely immense sprawl.

Doesn't make me one of them. Also I don't live in Alexandria.

As I recall Canada has a higher percentage of immigrants as a percentage of total population though Canada does try to pick better educated immigrants compared to the US.

If you don't control for variables, you have no way of knowing what the cause of the difference is. If you don't control for the different demographics of the US and Canada, then you don't know if the difference in life expectancy is caused by the difference in the health care systems or the different demographics.

As far as I know, there's no clear evidence that preventive medicine on the whole has an effect on health outcomes that makes it worth the expense. That being said, some types of preventive medicine seem more worthwhile than others.

Everyone knows that people without health insurance are more likely to die. But are they?
