I cannot find the article at the moment, I'll look for a bit. You'd be surprised how much food a rich soil, intercropping and multiple canopies can produce.


I went pretty far down the rabbit hole, but the Rodale Institute does alot of research and this article was about 10 years ago (and I don't remember the guy's name). I'll keep an eye out for it and search more later.

Assuming I don't find it, your number or 4000 sq. ft. proves my point all the same. We can feed 6+ billion people sustainably (using a mix of conventional and organic techniques depending on specific circumstance), and we should get started on the sustainability as soon as possible.

Thinking that the whole world can just go to conventional agriculture is like thinking that the Chinese can all have a US standard of living. It's just not possible without massive degradation of world resources. The US standard of living (under current practice), and agriculture, are simply not sustainable. To expect that such at a global level would be sustainable is ludicrous.
