The only thing I'd read by Ayn is Anthem. It's a nice (100 page) story about individualism set in an exquisitely tangible pluralist context.

I'm about 200 pages in. The post-civil war bimonetary (gold/greenback) stuff is fascinating

It's amazing that elections and candidates ran on monetary platforms that weren't identical in practice and different in name.

I took a quick look at a description of the book on the internet and jumped to the conclusion that it was philosophical. My bad.

Also, I actually am enjoying the fountainhead. I'm not quite halfway through, but so far it's really just like any other novel, i.e., no explicit message to it. But, in my opinion, the writing is good and the characters are interesting. Evidently not everyone here agrees, but that's why they call it an opinion.

I really don't think RAND is full of former teen Objectivists. It's more the type of place for nerds who played Axis & Allies in high school.
