Adults are adults because there are real ramifications for the decisions they make. If you let kids make meaningful decisions ("I'm going to drop out of school in the 10th grade to become a prostitute"), you are being neglectful.Originally posted by OzzyKP View PostTreating someone like an adult != neglectful

How is preventing a kid from watching Saw IV or making them eat broccoli instead of ice cream preventing someone from growing up?Originally posted by OzzyKP View PostHaha, good parenting is stopping your kids from growing up.
Kids who are allowed to do whatever they want EVENTUALLY BELIEVE THEY ARE ENTITLED TO DO WHATEVER THEY WANT, and grow up to be ****TY adults. That is not good for a healthy stable society. Hollywood kids are not good for the rest of us.Funny, I thought the whole point of parenting was to prepare kids for being an adult.
How is parenting holding kids back? Maybe, instead of advocating kids acting independent of anyone else's ideals, you should be advocating that parents allow the kids to gradually take their own life over as they age (like not staying up to midnight until a kid shows that he can and can get up and go to school and keep his grades up.) But I feel good parents already do that.Holding them back for as long as possible not only goes against this idea, but it actually causes damage to their brain development.
That's probably true. My mother not allowing me to watch TV shows that objectified women makes it difficult for me to pick up chicks at bars. Not to mention lots of damage to their social development."I predict your ignore will rival Ben's" - Ecofarm

No it doesn't.
It also relies on a survey to assess the quality of parenthood. The drawback of which is that those with organically damaged brains are more like to inaccurately whimper about their parents. So how can you assess whether it's actually the "symptom" that's causing the "cause"?The genesis of the "evil Finn" concept- Evil, evil Finland

Would it still be neglectful if you offered to be their pimp?Originally posted by Asher View PostAdults are adults because there are real ramifications for the decisions they make. Libraries are state sanctioned, so they're technically engaged in privateering. - Felch
I thought we're trying to have a serious discussion? It says serious in the thread title!- Al. B. Sure
