Yeah, but Dubya had money, so he had little excuse to not wear anything better.

Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth
Jon Miller: MikeH is a shockingly revolting dolt and a masturbatory urine-reeking sideshow freak whose word is as valuable as an aging cow paddy. We've got both kinds
I still have my watch (a couple, in fact) but never wear them except when at a trade show, where I have constant appointments. Having the unaccustomed weight on my wrist keeps me conscious of the time.
But day to day, no need. I can see 3-4 clocks from my workspaces at home, and use the celphone when I'm out.

Meh, its from the girlfriend's parents anyways (who don't have a lot of money), and besides I kinda like the retro simplistic wristwatch look - for instance, I like the J Crew Timex watch (but not the price).

I use a cheap digital timex so if it gets messed up or I lose it, I don't care (yes, I only take it off at night or when I shower but we have two cats that have, in the past, made things disappear)
Since I'd rather not be accessible I keep my cell phone TURNED OFF in my briefcase. (in case of emergencies) So I need something for the time.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
If you don't carry a cell phone on your person, yes, it's still a necessity.

Who doesn't carry a cell phone on their person? Even my mom and dad at age ~ 70 do so.

I don't. I keep it in my briefcase. TURNED OFF as mentioned before.
I refuse to be at it's mercy. IF I want to contact someone, I turn it on.
And usually I only turn it on a few minutes a week. Right before I'm scheduled to TEE off, in case any of my playing partners are running late and need to let me know. The only time I ever had it turned on all the time was when my wife was pregnant. And even then, I didn't answer it unless i recognized the wife's number.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

You're the exception that proves the rule. You're just avoiding your workplace calling you all the time.
Don't get me wrong. 5 years ago I was in the same boat as you. But I was a dying breed.
