How many people have heard that Thomas Jefferson created his own bible by cutting out parts of the real Bible with scissors? I just recently learned this.

What is the Jefferson Bible? In 1820, just six years before his death, Thomas Jefferson set about editing the New Testament, physically removing with scissors all verses that pertained to miracles, resurrection, and anything supernatural, and pasting the rest together. What he was left with was, he believed, a purely moral document.

You can't remove parts of the Bible. You have to read the whole thing. This was distributed to Congress between 1904 and 1957.

Sounds a lot like what people (Christians) do today on a mental level... at least Jefferson had the balls to actually take action on the thought. I find it funny how a lot of Christians ignore what they want and highlight what they support.

What whole thing? The Greek Orthodox whole thing? The Roman Catholic whole thing? The Lutharian whole thing? Do you include the whole Torah? Do you include the apocryphical Books?

Let's face it: there is no whole thing, it's each his own...

This is why "Theologian" isn't in his resume.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

I believe Jefferson removed all the super natural bs but kept the moralizing stuff.

Every major group (except a couple, Mormons I am looking at you) agree about a large number of the books that should be included.

Everyone, Jews and Catholics too, consider the apocrypha to be lesser. The question is generally how much worth is it?

Some read a little bit of ancient church history, realizes that there were dissidents, and has huge doubts about the validity of the books of the NT. However, if they would read a little more they would see that the earliest church fathers (as well as all later ones) vouched for the traditional books of the NT (what little we have from them).

Do you know what the Torah is? All major Christian Bibles include the whole Torah, it is the first 5 books of the Bible.

The other Jewish books (talmud/etc) are more akin to the writings of CS Lewis/etc, not to the Bible.

Well of course, everyone knows fiction when they see it.

I take it you haven't read Mere Christianity?

I might better refer to Clement but you don't know who he is. I couldn't remember Augustine.

                    This guy?

Titus Flavius Clemens (c.150 - c. 215), known as Clement of Alexandria (to distinguish him from Clement of Rome), was a Christian theologian and the head of the noted Catechetical School of Alexandria...

Nope, haven't read his stuff. I like it when my storytellers acknowledge they are peddling BS.

My point is that they consider the Talmud/etc to be writings by theologians/etc, not scripture. Just like what we consider the writings of Clement and Augustine to be.

And my point is you are sorting through the various fantasies to find your particular "truth".

                        It's all fiction Jon.

And you don't have any rational reason to say that.
