Wow, not once in the article did it mention why they are protesting. Lousy journalism.

No one seems to know why they are protesting. That's kind of the point.
Something about "our streets"? Typically these are anarchist groups protesting. They don't know why they do it, they just like to do it."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Here we go. They are protesting people being poor and homeless, or something. Jesus Christ.
The protesters are attempting to draw attention to the issue of poverty and homelessness but also targeted some of the major corporate sponsors with the Olympics.
Three storefront windows at the Bay's downtown location were smashed and spray painted red."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Local news says that people are pissed because the city has spend a couple of billions on the OL buildings that they probably won''t get back. Further that these luxury buildings are placed in the middle of one of the worst parts of the city. Can piss even poor canucks off I guessOriginally posted by Asher View PostHere we go. With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Agent provocateurs often pose as 'anarchists' and incite unruly behavior as an excuse to crack the whip.

So they're protesting after the fact and causing even more government money to be spent controlling their tantrums? Money that can no longer go to, say, building homeless shelters?Originally posted by BlackCat View PostLocal news says that people are pissed because the city has spend a couple of billions on the OL buildings that they probably won''t get back. It just makes no ****ing sense. The Olympics cause a windfall for the host city, it raises the profile of the city and brings in a lot more money over a lot longer a period than these idiots can ever imagine.
They're petulant children acting out and looking for international attention. They're not doing anything else.
Placing the new buildings in the worst parts of the city is the SMART thing to do. It's an urban renewal project. What were before notorious drug-trade-ridden streets are turning into nicer streets. It also helps control costs because that real estate is cheaper."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

The whole province sucks. It's a disaster, really.
Shame because the landscape is beautiful. Problem is the people and the governments they elect."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Several hundred police in masks?
Sure, there are likely police among the protesters. I find it unlikely that it is police who are instigating riots and assaults though. Not impossible, just unlikely.(\__/)

I'm not suggesting they might all be police. It only takes a few ne'er-do-wells to incite a mob.
And as the articles I linked said, 'undercover' police have been used to 'incite' crowds in the past. It does serve the interests of the state when they can justify increased police/military control over 'protest' zones, and subsequently demonize peaceful protesters.
The article makes no sense whatsoever, and appears to have changed. The link now says it was "over a hundred" mixed with a separate group of 200 peaceful protesters. Also identifies them as Black Bloc groups which are notoriously associated with provocateurs and police infiltration.
As tensions escalate, police have taken out what looks like machine guns.
...
"The demonstrations I would characterize as being minor and dealt with properly," Mr. Adams told the briefing.
Machine guns are proper for dealing with minor demonstrations? Doesn't make sense. Sounds like a police force very eager to flex its muscle.
