Yeah, I should join the thread as well. My employer is dropping my hours, so I'm looking for another job as well. Union jobs seem pretty cool

About a year ago mine went with no over time without a managers approval which I though weird since supposedly I am a project manager.

So funny. He's been in for one year. He gave out trillions to bail out big business (something that liberals have always accused Republicans of doing) and now it dawns on him that maybe the well has an end. Gee, do ya think? Do you think maybe money was pissed down a dry well? I'm not Republican, I'm Independent, and I knew for ****ing sure he was a real bad idea.

I don't want to hear a word now about it. Reap what you sowed. His grandchildren will be paying it off too, just a lot easier than yours.

It's standard practice due to a government regulation for defense contractors. Even professional workers who have a minimum salary must get paid over time. Sure, it is an unnecessary regulation but one which works in my favor so I don't question the gift horse.

It's one of the reasons I prefer doing environmental work on government contracts instead of, say, working in the oil business.

I always keep an eye open for entry level programmers. The last time I had an opening I hired someone from here.

Try the census, it's what I'm doing. We're currently looking for enumerators to pester the idjits who don't send back the forms we send them. I'm pretty sure you're smarter than 90% of our applicants; for example, you will not put "walking" as a form of transportation available to you on the application, nor "English" as a language you are proficient in.

Blaming the applicants for valid responses to a badly worded survey.

(I'll give you that walking isn't a form of transportation, but being proficient in English isn't a given!)

Have you considered going to the Philippines? My SO has a cousin there. He can hook you up with a job at the local flea market (don't worry, a buck a day is all you need).

But how will I buy a child bride on only a dollar a day? We already know that the pretty ones don't get sold to the poor boys.

I might actually go that route. Keeping busy looks better than not doing ****.

I'm in no rush. I got to sleep in this morning. I'm treating this first week as a five day weekend. Besides, I get paid for all my remaining sick and vacation time, so it's not a catastrophe.

I actually don't have a college degree. According to the school records, there's no evidence that I attended class after Nov. 7, 2004. In other words, Halo 2 is the reason I dropped out of college. Otherwise, I am the sort of deviant scumbag who would want to go bang Korean high school kids.

I've done some programming, but nothing since high school. I don't think I'd be qualified even for an entry level position.

In any event, I'm not really stressing out too much. The company has been going through tough times, so I already was mentally prepared for this to happen. We'd lost out on a big contract around the end of last year, and have been limping along since.

Are you going to get unemployment insurance payments?

Not for the first couple weeks I suppose. After my leave runs out I'm pretty sure I qualify. My boss wasn't terminating me for cause, and I'd been working there for over three years.

Yeh, so long as you were on the payroll and weren't working as a contractor for your boss, you'll get benefits.

There you go. Use your time on unemployment to go back to school and finish your degree. By the time you graduate the economy will be better and you'll have upgraded your skill set so that you can get an even better job. It's win-win.
