  • Looking for work

I got fired today. Not fired exactly, my old boss made it clear there were no hard feelings. Times are just tough, and they didn't have money in the budget to pay me to sit on Apolyton all day.

Anybody know of any place that does have money for slackers?

What do you do when you're not slacking?
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

      Union jobs. Consider transit unions.

Here's the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) guys hard at work:

        TTC guy is my idol!

When I'm not slacking, Rah, I'm pretty flexible. I worked for a stone and tile subcontractor, and I'd do all the ***** work nobody else wanted. Answer phones, fix computer problems, organize and staples sets of drawings. Office crap work.

It was time for me to move on, and now that I've seen what awaits me in the public sector, I can't wait.

When this picture became public (some guy tweeted it), the TTC union stood behind his man and publicly chastised every member of the public who walked by him during his twenty minute nap. How dare they not wake him! He could've been dead, they proclaimed.

Yeah, I should join the thread as well. My employer is dropping my hours, so I'm looking for another job as well. Union jobs seem pretty cool

Cool until you realize that anything that's remotely interesting is ununionized.

I'll take either extreme. Got an interview to be an air traffic controller on Friday, fr'instance.

Try the census, it's what I'm doing. We're currently looking for enumerators to pester the idjits who don't send back the forms we send them. I'm pretty sure you're smarter than 90% of our applicants; for example, you will not put "walking" as a form of transportation available to you on the application, nor "English" as a language you are proficient in.

Actually I probably would put those in, but I'd do so because I'm a smartass not a dumbass.

The panicked Democrats have sided with the Republicans and have decided to not extend unemployment benefits. Yes, that is right. As we face the highest unemployment figures in 80 years the politicians are telling the unemployed that they will give trillions to banks but not a penny for the unemployed. I've actually heard, on several forums, Republican posters say the unemployed simply don't want to get jobs and its not like they can't find jobs or anything. Nope, that 12% unemployment rate is because the lazy bastards won't accept work instead of that they can't find work. I predict this will go over just peachy and that this latest Democratic surrender of their principles will not effect them at all in November. Nope, I can't see why Democratic voters would be angry with Democratic politicians selling out their principles.

Senate Jobs Bill Skips Unemployment Benefits Extension
                        January 26, 2010 - by Donny Shaw

Unemployment insurance benefits, which have been a perennial hot issue with OpenCongress users, will not be extended under the jobs bill that Senate Democrats are writing.

The House passed a jobs bill in December (H.R. 2847) that included a six-month UI benefit and COBRA health care subsidy extension among other things.

The companion bill that the Senate is working will be significantly pared down, according to a report from the Washington Post on a draft version that is being circulated on the Hill today. While the House bill would cost $155 billion, the Senate bill is expected to cost about $80 billion and be entirely funded by unused financial bailout money. According to the reports, two will be heavy on tax incentives for small businesses that hire new employees, money for infrastructure and energy efficiency projects, and funds to help state governments keep public employees like police and firefighters on the payroll.

The Post reports that am unemployment benefits extension like the one the House included in their jobs bill “may move in the chamber separately.”

For more information on unemployment benefits extension, see our WIki article, Emergency Unemployment Compensation, and the Benefit Wiki Project, which lists detailed UI information state-by-state. Also see the active community at the 2009 unemployment extension bill page.

The Dems are morons. They're panicking and its going to blow up in their face. Obama wants to freeze the Federal budget in the middle of the worst recession in living memory because he wants to appear more centrist. I mean that worked so well in 1937 when the US went back into recession because Republicans demanded the Federal budget be balanced. All the Dems are going to do is piss off their base who will then refuse to turn out in Nov. If they think that will help them win elections then I have a beach house in Montana to sell them.
