    Fact.

NBC confirms Jay Leno bumped from prime time

PASADENA, Calif.–NBC decided to end the Jay Leno experiment when some of its affiliates started talking about dropping the nightly prime-time show, its top entertainment executive said Sunday.

NBC Universal Television Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin said Sunday that Leno's nightly prime-time show will end with the beginning of the Winter Olympics on Feb. 12. NBC wants Leno to do an 11:35 p.m. show each night, a return to his old time slot, Gaspin said.

Gaspin said despite lower ratings for NBC at 10 p.m. compared with last year, the network was making money off the show.

But affiliates were upset that the show was leading fewer viewers into their late news programs, costing them significant advertising revenue. Some affiliates told NBC in December they would go public soon about their complaints if a change wasn't made, or even take Leno's show off the air.

"The drumbeat started getting louder," Gaspin said.

Gaspin has proposed moving Conan O'Brien's Tonight show to 12:05 a.m., and Jimmy Fallon's show would start an hour later. But the late-night hosts had not agreed to the move. Gaspin said he expected NBC's late-night situation to be cleared up by the start of the Olympics.

Asked if O'Brien and Fallon expressed anger at his proposal, Gaspin said both men were professional and understanding when they talked.

"Beyond that, it was a private conversation," Gaspin said.
    What a gongshow at NBC.

Poor Conan. I'm not that big a fan of O'Brien, but he got screwed over by Leno.

As per most of the time, I have to agree with Asher, very few times have I totally disagreed with you sir, I think leno has had periods of amusing presentation, but its not "hiis" material but writers, yes he has some periods of levity, but all in all, not a fanboy of his.

NBC has managed to massively piss off all three of their late-night hosts.

It isn't like NBC doesn't have experience in this before. They have been an utter cluster**** in replacing Tonight Show hosts the last two times they've done so.

NBC are serial idiots. If they had handed the keys to Letterman instead of Leno back in the early 90s, this would all be moot.

As far as I'm concerned, Leno and Conan can rot in whatever timeframe they end up in. I feel sorry for Fallon, who has breathed a little fresh life into things. But none of them can touch Craig Ferguson, the best thing that's happened to late night TV since Letterman in the late 70s.

Yes, NBC should've given the Tonight Show to the late night host who was Leno's ***** in the ratings for the last decade...

              Fallon is absolutely dreadful.

Leno only got to where he was ratings wise because he possessed the tradition laden "Tonight Show" and people were willing to watch. If NBC gave it to Letterman, Leno would have been forced to go to CBS or something, and lacking the backing of the "Tonight Show" name would have failed, leaving NBC as the only real late night option as it was when Carson was hosting.

The fact that Letterman was beating Leno in the ratings initially and lost ground slowly over time makes this theory of yours complete nonsense. Leno won because his humor appeals to a wider audience.

I prefer Conan over Leno (and preferred Letterman over Leno until Letterman got old and bitter), but choosing Leno over both Letterman and Conan was the best business decision for NBC. Their biggest mistake was forcing Leno out of the Tonight Show in the first place.

I had no idea these shows were aired so late. 12am? How do people get up at 7 and go to work after watching them?

Leno blows, tame monologues and stiff interviews.
