On his deathbed? That would be unusual with prostate cancer, having only been diagnosed a few months ago. Possible, certainly, but unusual.

There are a pile of news reports out on Hopper in the last few days saying similar things.
Maybe the cancer was advanced before detected? I know nothing of these things.
edit - A more complete Hopper health article
Tuesday, January 12, 2010 – Reports are claiming that Dennis Hopper is losing his fight against cancer.
In October it was announced that the actor was battling with prostate cancer and was admitted to the hospital with severe flu type symptoms.
Immediately Hopper underwent treatment for his illness at the University of Southern California, but it is said that the disease has spread to his bones. His health has been worsening each day. Presently Hopper is in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and has been there since Christmas.
According to Britain’s News, doctors are admitting that the battle for the 73 year old may be over soon with the disease spreading like it is. The publication states the doctors have discussed with Hopper that the illness is incurable and that these may be his final days.
The acting legend has been struggling with the beast of diseases since 2002.
The actor is a legendary star that has performed in films like Apocalypse Now, Speed and Hoosiers, and Blue Velvet. He just finished the shooting for the TV Series Crash.
He is married to his fifth wife, Victoria Duffy, 42 and they both have a 6 year old daughter together.

drunkasaskunk is lined up for some unique pick points:
Doug Fieger, frontman for the Knack, is reportedly dying. According to the Detroit News, the man behind 1979's classic 'My Sharona' and its parent album 'Get the Knack' has lung and brain cancer.
Still, Fieger, 57, has a pretty positive outlook on his mortality, considering the three craniotomies and whole-brain radiation he has endured. "Everybody is in the same spot," the Southern California-based rocker told the paper. "I just know there is something that will potentially end my time here."
Fieger, who had a piece of his lung removed in 2004 and has been diagnosed with 22 brain tumors, says he's weak but pain-free. For now, Doug -- who topped the singles charts for six weeks with 'Sharona' and ultimately sold 6 million copies of the band's debut album -- is confident he will get enough strength to play his many guitars.
He's said he is prepared to die "if that's the case" but he noted that his grandmother lived for 21 years after she was diagnosed with cancer. He's also ready to stay, and he dismisses the notion of a worst-case scenario. "I'm not sure it's the worst," he said of dying. "When we get there, we might kick ourselves and say, 'Why didn't I show up sooner?'"
