Someone once said the Fuggs were the 1st proto-punk band, but other than that I don't know much about them.

    And don't forget MC5.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Too obvious, Drake. Far too obvious.

It's true. You can talk about the Stooges and MC5 all you want, but punk didn't take off until the Ramones did it in a city that matters.

While true today, it used to have something to offer.

That long? I often play it at work.

I only found out about this a couple of weeks ago:

Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
                Once again...

I was in Camden Market today, right by the building that used to be the Clash rehearsal rooms back in 77, when the whole area was still railway yards, and looking at the steps opposite where the cover for the first album was shot, and one of the stalls nearby happened to be playing The Clash.

The building that they used to rehearse in is now dominated on the lower floor by Cyberdog, who do what can probably be best described as techno fashions. I used to get loads of T-shirts from them back in my clubbing days.

Ah, nostalgia. Still, it ain't what it used to be.
