What is the connection between the Senator and this Ugandan group? The phrase "has ties to" does not explain it--it simply alleges it.

Lots of unbelievable and utter horsecrap going on in Africa if you start to dig what's happening in there. 20+ year long civilian-targeted civil war/genocide orgy in Congo, desertification of nearly all terrain due to overfarming and short-sighted land usage in Sudan, government-funded paramilitiary death squads waging war against civilian farmers in Zimbabwe. What's interesting is that when he is confronted with a tiny fragment of this African reality, a small shadow of it's effects hidden beneath all the celebrity gossip in the local newspaper; the western man always, by default starts to look for the cause of it from himself and his own culture.

Yes, the barely functioning democratic system of Uganda is about to push through a populist and authoritarian bill straight from the 19th century. How on earth is this the fault of your fellow Americans?
This is all entirely true, but I don't see what it has to do with the issue at stake, being whether an American senator agrees with or supports legislation of this kind.

Having not read anything else, what is Uganda's Muslim population? They must have been an influential lobby too, since you have laws like this in many places in the Middle East.

geez... ugandans create their own bills and ugandans are free to vote on them as they choose. are you an extremely easy-to-fool invididual or are you presuming me to be one?

BTW How is having a death penalty in the books for homosexuality comparable to the Holocaust?

Oh my god. You were serious with this question?

Another example of stupid question - How is having a death penalty in the books for Jews comparable to the Holocaust? (points to Kuci's post)

Another country where the situation for gays and lesbians has gotten much worse is in post-Saddam Huissein Iraq.

There, militias organize to hunt down and torture gays and lesbians to death. During Huissein's dictatorship, gays and lesbians were allowed to have their own underground culture/community. But under his rule, they still didn't have any rights - hell, no one did, as it was a dictatorship.

The problem with comparing most things to the Holocaust is one of scale. Here's the top of the decision tree:
Q: Are thousands of people being tortured/killed?
If you said "no," then it's not comparable to the Holocaust. (If you said "yes" then it may not be comparable as we haven't established the full scale yet, this is just a quick filter for people who would casually compare pretty much anything to the Holocaust.)

I don’t know why people give Saddam such a hard time?

Generally he let people be, unless they got uppity with him – which is kinda, sorta, fair enough…

This thread is pointless until these "ties" are explained. The OP is as stupid as me claiming MOBIUS has ties to Chinese human rights abusers because they are both *******s.

In any case, since it is obvious that Mr Fun can't do research I will point out that of the 20 current US Congressmen who are members of this very broad action group 6 are Democrats.

Yeah, as much as I find legislation like this an abomination, having ties is so vague and it says no where that the members of the action group actually support this. Just more hate mongering by mr. fun. I do find it humorous that the action group does also include dems.
