That I don't doubt KH, but I've managed technical experts for over 30 years. The best are high on themselves. (rightfully so) And I've never met one that can hide it completely. The better they are the harder it is for them. You usually sound pretty good so I'm guessing it slips out frequently.

The people who aren't high on themselves lack the confidence because they've been wrong a lot. It shouldn't surprise you that the people who are usually right, historically, may seem high on themselves if they trust their judgement over people without such a track record.

The key is to be supremely confident and high on yourself without being condescending or arrogant (in the sense that you're not receptive to the input of others). Alpha geeks who know their **** and assume they're right are not a bad thing, it just needs to be controlled. Projecting that confidence though is key, especially in consulting.

In terms of resume submissions, I'm only about 40% resume to interview at this point

i've never had the slightest inclination to teach, unfortunately, though i'd stick more to baroque/classical/romantic periods were i to do so.

When talking to a total ignoramus about something math or science related I usually wave my hands a lot and rely on analogies. There is no possible way to communicate useful information in such situations, so the best you can do is to give the impression to the person you're talking to that they've learned something.
