  • How old is the world?

I don't mean the real age (which IIRC is about five billion years give or take), but the fake age. I know that Bishop Ussher dated the beginning of the world to 4004 BC, but I've heard dates given anywhere from 10K BC to 4K BC and was wondering where the assorted conflicting chronologies came from.

The universe has existed for 23 years, the world has been here throughout that time.

Given the new modern physics, the Earth is now older than the Universe.

2 minutes ago. Everything was created in it's current state by a greater being who enjoys ****ing with people.

I cannot disprove that assertion so it must be true.

Can't we just ask "Who here doesn't think the Earth is approximately 4.6bn years old?"

                  Your logic is unassailable.

I don't know, and I don't care. If the world is as old as the Bible's family tree, ie around 6000 years, that's okay for me, if it's 4.6 billion years old, I'm fine with that too. Science tells me it's very old, science is often right and sometimes wrong. More often it's undecisive. The Bible doesn't tell anything about the age, the 6000 years is humans using it as a scientific factbook. Which I'm sceptical to.

This probably makes me a potential Ben, but I'm not there yet.
