I had my credit card number stolen while I was on holidays a few years ago. Someone maxed out my credit card and then some on Google ads. Apparently a credit card limit is just a suggestion. Because the card was over the limit, the bank wouldn't send out a replacement card until the transactions were investigated and reversed. All in all, it was quite inconvenient.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Japher, why would someone want to be you? From the obvious reasons of trying to glue some of that magic you have into themselves, kind of like Buffalo Bill did in the Silence of the Lambs, there's many other reasons. And by the way, checking our credit status is the best single way to detect identity thefts, so congrats on being vigilant.

OK, so if I wanted to break the law, I would start in stealing credit card infos. Why? It's the first step in more grand criminal activity, that is if I am able to copy your identity and attach it to myself, I'm pretty difficult to catch. Say I get caught in action, I'm pretty slippery if then I was Japher and am no more. Crimes are attached to identities, not physical bodies. They are not interested in your nipples but of the information that is linked to mean you.

OK but the more obvious route is to sell it. These days it's not worth it that much though. Organized crime sells stolen cards for less than a dollar due to the high supply, over demand. I can spend hundred bucks and buy in bulk. With bulk, I can just charge them all at once in for example amazon and other sites. The key is to make it worth your while, so you don't spend one and take an almost invisible risk to get caught in action, but just do a thousand of them in a day and then dump them all.

I can apply for jobs with false premises if I have your identity for later on big frauds, and frauds in general require an identity.

There's just few reasons why people want your identity.

I once had this weird dream where someone stole my identity. When he found out how much I owed, he tried to give my identity back but I wouldn't take it. So, he was stuck being me.

        Bwahahahahahaha!
