Why would they do that? Don't they know who I am? Why would you want to be me?
Well, really they stole my wives debit card and charged $800 bucks to Babies R US which took the monies right out of our account. Bank told me I would have to wait until the charge cleared to file fraud which will then take 10 days for me to get my money back. Babies R Us told me to fill out a police report for identity theft and to have the police fax it to them. Luckily my county is pretty small and the cops didn't have much to do. Though they did not like being told by Babies R Us to fax them a police report, but the cop said he would after calling the customer services line themselves.
In the meantime, wifey was calling Babies R Us and yelling at them to cancel the order and credit us back our money. They said they couldn't do that. So, she asked them where they sent the stuff she obviously didn't order, and they wouldn't tell her that. They did ask her for our phone number, which didn't match any of ours. But, they eventually told my wife that they couldn't do anything else until they had the police report, she still laid into them and they hung up on her.
Basically, Babies R Us will eventually get stuck with the loss. Which makes me wonder why they don't debit your account before they deliver with the debit clearing when the delivery is made. That way, if it is fraudulent it gives the real money holder time to react. That would make sense to me.
Anyway, $0 balance on credit card and an ING emergency fund will cover us for the next 10-15 days. Still, it's pretty annoying that people get away with this.

), so I think they'll refund the money. Besides, from my knowledge of our card sales, it'll be the credit card company who foots the bill ultimately. Understandably, as such a large company, TRU will have a heck of a lot of dodgy card transactions, and won't want to bother the card companies/banks with another, but it's their problem at the end of the day, and so TRU won't be too bothered about accepting a transaction that may be fraudulent becuase they won't foot the bill. If they have the delivery address then that will be a huge bonus in finding the fraudster, and they won't refuse it to the card company, even if they do to your wife. Frankly, it's none of her business who is trying to commit fraud with her card, because the card company will cover it, and the card company will send in the police "on her behalf".
