If you read the post, I don't think they shouldn't be allowed to do what they do.

They shouldn't be allowed to do what they do and then repeatedly claim to be 'fair and balanced'. They also shouldn't be allowed to fabricate lies to discredit their competition.

Limiting these kinds of actions are normal in your country. You have laws against false advertising and slander/libel, which Fox News is exhibiting with alarming frequency.

FWIW, as KH points out, for how much you guys brag about your free speech it's still alarmingly censored compared to other countries on the television/radio.

you just think a gov't agency should decide who gets to call themselves "fair and balanced"

Their competition are free to pursue libel suits.

False advertising laws don't and can't apply to political speech, and the government doesn't prosecute people for libel.

Yes. The FCC regulates that field, if you didn't know already.

Dude, WTF is wrong with you today? It doesn't apply to political speech. There's nothing political about blatantly false advertising -- eg, Fox News advertising that their competitors don't cover events when they clearly did. That's not political speech, it's plain and simple false advertising.

It's no different than Ford advertising that Toyota vehicles are manufactured by communist Mexicans with a block of C4 in the trunk on a timer. False advertising is false advertising, which is illegal in your country despite your profession of your country having free speech.

As a side note, the FCC does regulate the airwaves for many trivial things (eg, decency). Quit acting like it's absurd for them to regulate licensed broadcasters for misrepresenting themselves and others.

If you can't see how Fox News declaring that its coverage is "fair and balanced" is entirely political, you aren't worth talking to on this.

False Advertising was mostly referring to their ADVERTISEMENT in the OP OF THIS THREAD and I have DIRECTLY REFERRED TO THIS SEVERAL TIMES and you are IGNORING THAT.

Please resume posting in this thread once you've located your brain.

(Sidenote: Their "fair and balanced" claim is not necessarily a political statement either -- when you have Fox News producers altering a situation they're supposed to be simply documenting, they are demonstrably not being fair and balanced regardless of what their political stance is)

Just clarify for everyone, Kuci, you are denying this is an example of false advertising?

                  No. It was personal.

Fun fact: Van Jones is co-founder of Color of Change, the main group that organized and promoted the ongoing advertiser boycott of Beck's show. Not that Jones is any sort of paragon of virtue, but still, this is pretty transparent.
                  Holy ****, I hadn't heard that.

                  Hilarious.

Eh, wasn't Van Jones' group's boycott of Beck's show in reaction to Beck dogging on Jones in the first place? So I'd read at least.
                  Unbelievable!

no, Van Jones group went after Beck for calling Obama a racist

they got video of a female producer at Fox trying to rev up the crowd for their cameras. She turned to see the camera behind her and ducked out of the way. They're propagandists

Beck is overrated as a guitar player tbh.
