I think he hasn't posted in years (EDIT: I was corrected via PM, he did post but in threads I didn't happen to read), but from what I remember, he never insulted people. This stands out on online forums, you know . I used to attribute it to him being older than his oponents. Yet now that I know that mature does not equal calm, I know it was a sign of a good-natured man.
He never got really angry, but I did get him close to the edge once or twice by constantly trolling him about the fact that the Nobel Prize in Economics wasn't actually a Nobel Prize.
He was, in fact, a very good-natured man. Again, in addition to being extremely bright.

I will never forget - in 2002, a couple of weeks into my new job, he walks up to me, and says (more or less) do you play Civ? "Well sure, how did you know" "You post on Apolyton?" Speechless. "Ming told me there was someone else from this IP address, though he didn't tell me whom" "I'm 'Lord of the Mark'" "I figured as much"

No, his previous job. He left to go to CBO, I stayed.
