Oh, and about that remark concerning if Dr Hawking were British he'd be dead already: Stephen Hawkings was born in 1941. He first developed symptoms in 1962 and has lived with his disease now for 47 years. His condition hasn't progresed for the pass 20 years. People with ALS rarely live 10 years after the onset of symptoms. It's beleived that Stephen Hawkings actually has Type IV Spinal Motor Neuron Atrophy. The new drugs for ALS only slow progression for a few months to years, and they'd be completely inappropriate for him since his condition has been stable so long. It's doubtful that an American neurologist would prescribe those medications for him - unless he was sorta like the guy who treated Michael Jackson.

If they had the same % wise cost, per person, as we do they would be spending 3x as much.
