    b) Even though the amish are pacifists, I doubt it. I bet the Hassidim are slappers

The amish are out there building barns and working the loam of the land. While the hassidists are. . .what the hell do they do actually?

Hassidis fight dirty. The Amish are too honest to win. They'd probably expect a fight in equal numbers too.

there's a group of liberal nations that allows public gay life
there's a sad (sub)group of those, where such atrocities occur.

Israel moved from the first to the 2nd.

I fail to see how pictures of police fighting hassidim rioters over a parking lot in Jerusalem is relevant.

It's sad when people are murdered, but is it unexpected?

Israel has lots of religious extremists and there's been hate crimes perpetrated by those people before. I seem to recall redaing they are multiplying faster than the rest of the population too so we will probably see more of this in the future.

Actually, no, surprisingly not that much hate crime, unless you consider hate-speech a crime. Hassidim dislike Ethiopian Jews, and Russian Jews, but hate crime is incredibly rare. Conflicts are usually avoided by the fact Hassidim are segregating themselves. Even sex shops and salons are very very rarely targetted because... well because they are in different neighborhoods, and some hassidim actually use those utilities.

Most of their hate crime is within their own communities - crap like brawling between rivaling factions, 'modesty' patrols, segregation of women, segregation by class or faction. Various bad **** that the government is rarely involving itself in. They distrust police and rarely give evidence.

Btw, there is no conclusive evidence that the killer was hassidic. He could have easily been any religious type, but very violent. Maybe had a personal vendetta (ie - his kid was gay, and he blamed the consulting center for 'brainwash').

There was a shooting incident several years ago? Someone massacred a whole bunch of arabs. Maybe he wasn't hassidim.

But is it true that they are increasing as a proportion of Israel's population? It seems like something that logically should be true, because they are religious and have more babies than the national average.

Funny enough, i don't remember if he was even the regular ultra-orthodox type.
And it certainly stood out as rarity.

Yes. The amount of sane Israelis does not grow much.

The amount of insane Israelis does: seclusive hassidim, ultra-orthodox nationalists, and muslim arabs are all procreating like crazy rabbits.

Baruch Goldstein. A Kachnik. Kach is a group that believes, like the Islamists do with Islam, that their interpretation of Judaism is the answer to every political question. They also oppose democracy. They also possess a similar conspiratorial mindset: e.g., the leader of Kach once predicted an imminent American anti-Jewish Holocaust. The group apparently has a few thousands Israeli Jewish members, and more overseas. The political party itself is banned in Israel.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

Zevico - I'm pretty sure he was referring to Natan Zada.

I prefer we keep this on israel proper.
