Prince is a musical genius, Michael was a commercial phenomenon, like Stephen King to literature.

He lived about 35 years too long. He should have done us all a favour and jumped in front of a bus when he was a teenager.

          Good riddance.

Mike's music is great. "Wanna be startin' somethin'"and "Smooth Criminal" are favorites. "Off the wall" is an excellent album.

Prince is great and certainly more innovative, but he's put out a lot of stinking garbage in his time too.

At the time that his best music was coming out, I hated it because I was exposed to it for hours every day.

But listening to some of it now, it is pretty damn good music.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I'm strangely saddened by this. Such an incredible talent, such a bizarre person. His life path is so interesting, from the cute kid in the jackson 5 to whatever he became, quite a story. I'm guessing accidental OD.

Billie Jean and Man in the Mirror are my favorites of his adult music, and remind me of growing up in the 80's.

                    Spoiler:

Wanna be startin' something is such a waste of casette tape.

asleepatthewheel - while very probably he had loads of sexual issues, from his upbringing - it wasn't proven he was a child molester. i tend to suspect he's a pedophile alright, but i'm not sure he actually molested any of the children he was accused of molesting.

Don't get me wrong. I think Prince is a greater genius, over multiple genres of music. But Michael was once great, and there's no point in denying it.
